Concordia University of Edmonton was founded in 1921 by the Lutheran Church as Concordia College. It began as a high school. In 1967, it was a college. In 1987, it became an institution that offers four-year degrees. It is rooted in Lutheran values and heritage, and encourages community, service, academic excellence, and a sense of community. The university's campus, located in Edmonton's Highlands, features modern facilities such as a library, an athletic center and student residences. A number of student clubs, organizations, and athletic teams compete at the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference are also found at the university. The Government of Alberta has accredited Concordia University of Edmonton. It is also a member of Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. It is home to approximately 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The student-to-faculty ratio is low, which allows for personal attention and engagement.
