About us
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, abbreviated as UMassD, is a public-funded research university located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Formerly known as Southeastern Massachusetts University, it merged into the University of Massachusetts System in 1991. UMassD is also the southernmost of the five campuses of the system. The renowned university has its roots in New Bedford Textile School and the Bedford Durfee Textile School, and it was finally granted the status of a university in 1969. The main campus of the university sprawls across 710 acres and is 60 miles south of Downtown Boston. It also has satellite campuses in New Bedford and Fall River. UMassD has an enrollment of 8513 students, out of whom 521 are international students, making the university one of the best places to study abroad. It offers 100 undergraduate programs, 40 graduate programs, and 35 online courses in diverse fields. Lastly, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is the proud Alma Mater of many notable alumni, including Scott Ferson, Pooch Hall, and Leah Van Dale.
