The University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire was founded in 1883 as Cardiff University. It was one of the University of Wales' founding colleges in 1893. It began awarding degrees to students in the year 1997. In 1988, it merged with the prestigious University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology. In 2005, the college's name, Cardiff University, became law, allowing it to issue degrees independently. Executive offices are centred around Cardiff at Cathays Park. At the same time, the Bute building houses the Welsh School of Architecture and the Cardiff School of Media, Journalism, and Cultural Investigations. Cardiff College's School of Planning, Geography, and Social Sciences is housed at the Glamorgan Building. Several academic offices of the college are concentrated on the Health Park Campus, which is shaped at the University Hospital. Cardiff University of Medicine and Healthcare is housed at the college. Around 160,000 graduated alumni from 180 countries are recognized around the world. These alumni have made their mark in various fields and organizations, including former Iraqi Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Barham Salih and BBC Governor Richard Tait. It has a reasonable educational cost and offers scholarships to international students.
