Johns Hopkins University was founded in 1876 and is the oldest research university in the Western Hemisphere and the United States. Over 400 academic programs are available at JHU on a variety of levels. Among them are 93 bachelor's degree programs, 191 master's degree programs, and 90 doctoral degree programs. Additionally, the university offers 129 certificates, 46 graduate certificates, and four non-degree programs. The JHU campus is home to more than 400 student clubs and organizations. Students are encouraged to create and participate in their own clubs at the university. There are three intakes at Johns Hopkins University: Fall, Spring, and Summer. There is a 9% acceptance rate at Johns Hopkins University, which indicates that admissions are highly selective. A total of 120 countries are represented by 20% of the international student population. Some of the JHU famous alumni are Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie -Novelist, Woodrow Wilson -28th U.S. president, Michael R. Bloomberg -former New York City mayor; founder of Bloomberg L.P., Bloomberg News, and Bloomberg Radio and Rachel Carson -Biologist, ecologist, and author of Silent Spring.
