Mississippi State University for Agriculture and Applied Science, abbreviated as MSU, is a public-funded research university located in Starkville, Mississippi. It was established in 1878 as Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanical College and became a full-fledged university in 1958. The MSU campus sprawls over 4200 acres of land and houses eight academic colleges and 730 buildings. Mississippi State offers 78 undergraduate majors, 15 undergraduate certificate courses, 87 master's programs, six graduate certificate programs, and 79 doctoral programs in diverse fields such as Agriculture and Life Sciences, Business, Education, Arts, and Sciences. It has a current enrollment of 22000 students. An acceptance rate of 54 percent and a 6-year graduate rate of 61 percent make Mississippi State University one of the best places to study abroad. Lastly, the university has a rich alumni base, and some of the notable ones are John Grisham, Jerry Clower, and Marsha Blackburn.
