Texas State University is a public-funded research university located in San Marcos, Texas. It was established in 1899 as the Southwest Texas State Normal School and was granted full-fledged university status in 1969. It is the most prominent member of the Texas State University System and the fifth-largest university of Texas. The university's main campus – San Macros Campus - sprawls across 507 acres and comprises 245 buildings. Texas State operates out of ten academic colleges and fifty schools and departments. The university also has a satellite campus in South Rock, Austin. Texas State offers 99 bachelor's programs, 93 master's programs, and 13 doctoral degrees in diverse disciplines. The university's current enrollment is 38000 plus students, out of whom 1 percent is international students from 70 different countries. Seventy-six percent of its students receive financial aid, and many study abroad scholarships are also available. Texas State is the proud Alma Mater of numerous notable alumni, including President Lyndon B. Johnson, Thomas Carter, and Kyle Park.
