Strathclyde University is one of the world's leading technological institutions. Established in 1796 as the Andersonian Institute, it is Glasgow's second-oldest university. It further attained its royal charter in 1964 as the first technological university in the United Kingdom. Almost 250 undergraduate programs and 200 graduate programs are available for international students. Students may choose from courses offered by the Business School, the Humanities & Social Sciences department, and the Science department. Additionally, Strathclyde's research program focuses primarily on health, manufacturing, and energy. A state-of-the-art gym, 25-meter swimming pool, tennis courts, squash courts, and dance studios are also available on campus. The university offers accommodations in 9 residence halls: Andrew Ure, Birkbeck, Chancellors, Forbes, Carnett, James Goold, Muray, James Young, and Thomas Campbell. Time Higher Education named the University of the Year for the first time in 2012, and again for the second time in 2019. Hence, it is one of the best places to study abroad. Among its acclaimed alumni are William Ramsay, John Logie Baird, Henry Faulds, and Professor John Curtice.
