Originally known as Sunderland Technical College, the University of Sunderland became a university in 1992. The university is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, Coalition of Modern Universities, and EQUIS Universities UK. Sunderland is home to two campuses of the university - City Campus and Sir Tom Cowie Campus, St. Peter's. There are 19,531 students enrolled at the university, including 15,153 undergraduates, 4,028 graduates, and 350 postgraduate research students. Over 36% of the student body are international students from 156 countries. Therefore, it’s one of the best universities to study abroad. The City Campus houses the Main Administration, Library, Support Service, Lecture Halls, and Sports facilities. More than 50 sports clubs and societies are affiliated with the university. Three residences are provided between the two campuses- two are managed by the university, and one is a private residence.
