The Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec), is New Zealand’s leading polytechnic institute based in Petone, Lower Hutt, formed in 2001. WelTec is the oldest tertiary education institute of NZ and the second oldest in Wellington, educating over 11000 students from different nations including 1,416 students from Asia, 596 students from European countries, 870 from the Pacific region, 4946 from NZ, and 1483 New Zealand Maori students, offering global education ‘work-oriented’ industry-led programs through undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, diploma and certificate courses in streams of business, tourism, health, social services, hospitality, engineering, arts, construction, and IT. WelTec maintains 3 campuses in Petone, Porirua, and Wellington, with Petone having the main campus housing all the academic, residential, recreational, and sports facilities surrounded by many social, commercial, and entertainment spaced, all connected via bus services.
